Electronic Braking Performance Monitoring System (EBPMS)
Your Guide to EBPMS and Brake Safety
Electronic Braking Performance Monitoring System
What is EBPMS?
An Electronic Braking Performance Monitoring System (EBPMS) is a digital solution that continuously monitors the braking performance of commercial vehicles, such as HGVs and trailers. It helps operators stay compliant with DVSA safety requirements while reducing reliance on physical brake testing between inspections.
An EBPMS uses data from the vehicle’s braking and onboard telematics systems to estimate braking efficiency in real-time. The system automatically captures performance data during regular driving, removing the need for manual assessments and frequent roller brake tests.

why We Monitor Brakes
Why Is EBPMS Important?
Brake performance is a critical safety factor for any commercial fleet. Poorly maintained brakes are a leading cause of vehicle downtime and road incidents.
- Proactively detect brake issues before they lead to failure
- Maintain compliance with DVSA guidelines
- Reduce costs and time spent on physical brake tests
- Increase road safety for drivers and the public
- Integration with maintenance schedules and inspection workflows
- Real-time alerts to fleet managers when performance drops
Do I Need EBPMS?
Is EBPMS a Legal Requirement?
As of now, EBPMS is not a legal requirement in the UK, but the DVSA encourages operators to adopt electronic monitoring tools as part of a proactive maintenance regime. Using an EBPMS can strengthen your compliance position during audits and reduce reliance on costly brake roller tests.
